Portrait Gallery
A selection of recent Portraits. Most of my work is now portraiture. At any time I am usually working on some commissions but I also enjoy painting friends and family. My interests are in the political and current affairs arena. I often paint the people I admire in these areas.
Our son, William, is a Londoner. From his flat in East London you can just about see the towers of the City of London. As an artist I had no hesitation in bringing these buildings closer to place him in his natural environment.

I always feel truly happy near water, so this image made the perfect self Portrait. In the summer we spent time near the sea in the Netherlands. Even though it was a work trip we found time to be in and next to the sea. Oil on Canvas, 80x80cm, £2,500
During Lockdown we all spent a lot of time on zoom. For a portrait painter this was a very strange experience. I spent a lot of time looking at myself. So, this unusual self portrait came into being.
This painting has been accepted as a finalist in the prestigious ‘Guildford House open’ competition. For more details have a look at the event here.
Alastair is a very old friend. I wanted to capture him in the Surrey Hills. We often walk together and enjoy our beautiful countryside.

While we were exhibiting in The Netherlands we stayed in a house in the seaside town of Katwijk. We were sitting in a cafe on the beach with a pitcher of Sangria in front of us when Alison said ‘That would make a great painting!’. So, here it is. Smaller than usual, only 30cm square. I like the high colour and diagonal shapes.
Oil on Canvas, 30x30cm, £700 unframed, £900 framed
During lockdown one of the few things we could do was go for walks together. This is an image captured on one of the walks with my Mum, Ellen. I wanted to capture the late afternoon light and the character of this amazing woman.

When I gave up my job in IT to become an artist my son asked a question:
‘Mum’, He said. ‘When you do your hobby as a job what will you do as a hobby?’
‘Politics’ I said.
And so it is. The voices in my studio are often from political podcasts and one of the best voices is Rory Stewart and has such an interesting face.
Oil on Canvas, 40x50cm. Price: £800
I always think of my daughter Lucy in the outdoors. So, this image of her in a very snowy Peak District scene is perfect.
Oil on Canvas, 66x52cm. Price £1800
