Just Jesus Evenings

There was a time, a few years ago, when every Christian was asking the question: ‘What would Jesus do?’. When I was planning these evenings I thought about this and came up with the following plan:

The evenings are at our house, mostly on a Sunday evening. The address is:

5 Beaufort Close, Reigate, RH2 9DG

Open doors from 6:30pm

A simple meal, homemade soup and bread, from 7pm. There will be a selection of drinks.

8pm - A reading from our Bible passage. We will then have a free ranging conversation about what the passage; What is surprising or interesting? What does this mean to us? I’m happy with any tangent or approach. It’s all allowed.

9:30pm - End the evening with prayers. Prayers can be personal or general. They can be something that has been on your heart for years or arise from the evening’s discussion.

Who can come?

Absolutely everyone is welcome. You could be a life long Christian or a complete atheist. You could be a member of a church or someone who never goes to church. You can be Gay or Straight. If there are more than about 10 people we will split up into different groups for discussion.

Do I need to sign up?

No you don’t. Just turn up on the evenings you want to come to.

What should I bring?

The main things to bring are your ideas, thoughts and opinions. If you have a favourite Bible then please do bring it but this is not necessary. Printed sheets with the passages we will be looking at will be available.

How do I know what is happening?

The best way is to be on the Just Jesus mailing list. I send out an email a few days before each meeting so you will always know what is going on. Just enter your email and name below

There is a very old political saying:

All it takes for Evil to succeed is for Good Men to do Nothing.

In this passage Jesus come up with his own version of this saying in verse 23:

This is war and there is no neutral ground. If you’re not on my side, you’re the enemy; if you’re not helping, you’re making things worse (MSG)

In a war everyone has to get involved. Yet many Christians are sitting on the sidelines. You could even say we are encouraged to be like this by our church leadership. How do we engage? How do we encourage others to enter into this war.
