During the winter of 19/20 I spent a lot of time waiting for the rain to stop so I could go out sketching. After weeks it looked as though there would be an opportunity and I loaded the car and headed for Ranmore Common. I had just got out the car when I met with some friends who live in the village. ‘Come for Coffee!’ They said.
‘No, I have to go sketching, but I’ll be there in a couple of hours’.
I did the sketch in the late afternoon sun, a stiff breeze blowing. I love the dark shadow filling the front of the painting and the sunlight in the distance. Painting in the winter is challenging but always worth it.
Late in the afternoon I turned up at my friends house and was treated to brewed coffee and homemade almond tart. A great end to the day.
