I love sketching in the winter. The light changes so fast it can create real drama. This painting was started on a rare dry afternoon in January earlier this year. It was bitterly cold. Towards the end of the sketching session a lady came up to me with her dog and started chatting. After a few minutes I realised that she owned the field. She encouraged me to come back and paint in the summer, when it would be full of red clover.
