Please note – All healing is done in the name of Jesus.
There are two broad methods of healing:
1. Intercession – Asking Jesus to heal the person
2. Command – Commanding in Jesus’ Name. In this case you are acting for Jesus. It is very important to use his name.
Four Basic kinds of Healing:
1. Forgiveness of Sin – Sin can have a huge effect on our lives. This includes ‘involuntary’ sins such as addiction and alcoholism. – Usually a prayer of intercession.
2. Inner healing of our emotional problems – This usually consists of asking Jesus to heal a situation which has happened in the past, which is causing an ongoing problem. Usually intercession
3. Praying for physical healing – praying for healing of any physical ailment. This could be something fairly major, such as cancer or a minor ailment such as a cold. Usually a prayer of command
4. Deliverance and Exorcism – Many problems, both physical and psychological, can be caused by evil spirits or demons. Almost always a prayer of command
Step 1 – Preparation, done together.
Before doing any healing, we need to ask Jesus to come into the gathering. Then sit quietly for a few minutes to let the Holy Spirit come. Then pray for protection from any evil spirits that may be released (note: this may not be necessary but is a useful precaution)
Step 2 – Diagnosis and guidance for healing.
1. Form a small group. There should be one person who would like to be healed, one person who is doing the healing and at least one more person who is observing.
2. Ask the subject if there is anything they would like to be healed. If they say that there is something, then ask them to give a brief explanation. Continue with the next step (whatever their answer)
3. Pray for the subject with your eyes open. Ask God to give you wisdom for anything that needs healing. Watch and listen for what happens. The subject can have their eyes open or closed.
4. Pray for guidance about the method of healing.
5. Listen quietly to what God is saying.
6. Discuss any words of knowledge with the subject. Ask them what they experienced.
Step 3 – Praying for healing
1. If you have had guidance from Jesus on how to heal, carry this out. Place your hand on the person (ask them first)
a. A command. ‘In the name of Jesus (and by the power of his blood) I command this (name the thing) to depart/be cast out. Let it leave this place and never return.
b. An intercession. I ask Jesus to heal (and then name the thing to be healed)
2. If you have not had any guidance, then just place your hand gently on the person (ask them first) and ask Jesus to come into this situation and heal. Do not use a lot of words. Silence is good.
3. Keep your eyes open. Be sensitive to the person you are looking at.
4. Guidance may come while you are praying, be open to this.
5. At some point there will be a sign you should stop (this may come from the person you are praying for)
6. Ask the person how it was.
One thing to bear in mind is that there may be an ongoing need. Healing does not always happen all at once. Also, Jesus could look right into the heart of a situation first time. We will not always be able to do this. So, there may be a need to repeat the process at some fu
