Just Jesus Evenings

There was a time, a few years ago, when every Christian was asking the question: ‘What would Jesus do?’. When I was planning these evenings I thought about this and came up with the following plan:

The evenings are at our house, mostly on a Sunday evening. The address is:

5 Beaufort Close, Reigate, RH2 9DG

Open doors from 6:30pm

A simple meal, homemade soup and bread, from 7pm. There will be a selection of drinks.

8pm - A reading from our Bible passage. We will then have a free ranging conversation about what the passage; What is surprising or interesting? What does this mean to us? I’m happy with any tangent or approach. It’s all allowed.

9:30pm - End the evening with prayers. Prayers can be personal or general. They can be something that has been on your heart for years or arise from the evening’s discussion.

Who can come?

Absolutely everyone is welcome. You could be a life long Christian or a complete atheist. You could be a member of a church or someone who never goes to church. You can be Gay or Straight. If there are more than about 10 people we will split up into different groups for discussion.

Do I need to sign up?

No you don’t. Just turn up on the evenings you want to come to.

What should I bring?

The main things to bring are your ideas, thoughts and opinions. If you have a favourite Bible then please do bring it but this is not necessary. Printed sheets with the passages we will be looking at will be available.

How do I know what is happening?

The best way is to be on the Just Jesus mailing list. I send out an email a few days before each meeting so you will always know what is going on. Just enter your email and name below

don’t worry, be ready

Imagine not worrying about anything. It’s hard to do but that is the world Jesus is suggesting we step into. He responds to a question about an inheritance with a long talk about what is really important, and what is not. As he says:

What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, not be so preoccupied with getting so you can respond to God’s giving.

Easier said than done! But is it possible?

But one thing we should be aware of is the need to be ready for Jesus. Jesus will return at the end of the age but is that it? I don’t think so. We need to be ready for him to speak to us at all times.
